Individual tax preparation businesses are allowed to offer free filings to people as a nice advertising gimmick. Unfortunately, each tax preparation site has a different set of qualifying rules that taxpayers must pass before being allowed to file taxes free.

Tax Hawk claims that they will prepare, print, and file your taxes online free. This is claimed in very large letters at the top of their homepage. In reality, Tax Hawk will only file state taxes for free if your federal income tax adjusted gross income is less than 20,000. The Tax Hawk can be found for filing state taxes at: taxhawk.com .
Tax Slayer will prepare and file your state taxes for free if your total household income is less than 56,000 and one of these following things apply to you: 1) You are under age 25. 2) You are over age 65. 3) Your federal adjusted gross income is less than 10,000 dollars. 4) You can show a W2 form from the military. File at: taxslayer.com .
OLT On Line Taxes There is nothing not to like about the OLT free service for filing state taxes if you are not old enough to buy your own beer yet. But, once you’ve attended your own 21st birthday bash, OLT charges you for filing state taxes. Only kids file free at the OLT On Line Taxes site; age 20 and under. You can find OLT at: olt.com .
Turbo Tax Freedom will free prepare state taxes for people who have an adjusted gross income of less than 30,000 per household if they live in one of the 21 different states that are listed. As you can see, it can be a frustrating experience to find a free way to file your state taxes online. At times, a state government page will list sites that offer free filing state taxes services for their people, but this does not apply to all states. If you go to an internet site called, ‘My Money Blog’ they have links to each state that has free online tax preparation information listed.
