Rarely can one say that something the U.S. government has done is an instant success. Generally you hear about tax money being used inappropriately or wasted. The bright spot for the government when it comes to tax collection is the IRS efile system. This is definitely money that was well spent. If you haven’t taken advantage of it you should. You’ve already paid for it. The following are the features which make the efile so great.

File your taxes from home

No more late runs to the post office. You can file your taxes in your pajamas. Now that is convenient! You can do it any time of the day or night. It is a 24 hour operation. As long as you have your taxes completed and have a computer with internet connection you are set. No more stress. That is one less thing you have to worry about.

Lost mail

Nothing is lost in the snail mail. As soon as you press the button and submit it you are done. You get a confirmation that lets you know that your tax returns have been received. Lost mail is a thing of the past. Unless you are one of the last holdouts for mailing your returns. If so check it out. You can even print out additional copies.

Quick refunds

The sooner you file the sooner you’ll get your refund check. Before you mailed it as soon as you received your W-2 it still took at least four weeks before you got your refund check. Now you can get your refund back within a week if you want a check or less than that if you are willing to accept a deposit directly into your savings or checking account. Think it about it this way, they’ve had your money for a whole year do you really want to let them keep it longer than necessary? You aren’t earning any interest on it while you are waiting for it.

Saves money

Not only do you save that stamp and gas fare, but it saves the government money by being able to have the returns processed by computer. This in turn also saves you the taxpayer money as they won’t have to pay as much to have returns processed. This is a win win situation.

Saves time

If you are a major procrastinator or have a family member who is this will save time. Who wants to stand in line at the post office? This is precious time that you’ll never get back. You could be doing something else. Something that you really want to do. Imagine a vacation during the week of April 15th that is paid for by your speedy tax refund. Are you motivated yet?

If you haven’t used IRS efile you are missing out. You can’t beat the ease and convenience of filing taxes from home. You’ll save time, money and be stress free. And a stress free person is a happy person. You’ll enjoy the efile experience.

Income tax rate charts vary between different statuses of filing. Married filing jointly, married filing as singles, head of household, and others can have their income brackets reading different percentage rates for the same taxable income amount earned. Income tax rate charts can also vary from year-to-year as new tax laws go onto the books. As an example, Americans making over $200,000 have a higher tax rate in year 2010.

One place that many people fall into problems with their income tax rate brackets changing upward unexpectedly is through innocent looking online activities. When extra income sales are made online through eBay or extra money earned in stock market trading, this income is added into the normal taxable income figures for the year, and it can increase the percentage rate that tax is assessed against the total taxable income.

Income tax rate charts are divided into sections that show different levels of income earned. When taxpayers are close to entering into the next level up for their income tax rate calculations, it is often wise to consider all aspects of the extra money being earned, against what will be owing to the government if a higher tax rate is charged. If the eBay income takes the whole home into a higher tax rate, sometimes it benefits the taxpayer to cap sales at a certain figure per year.

An easy way to calculate a taxpayer’s income tax rate amount is through using an online tax preparation site at the time that income taxes are being calculated for the year. These sites have software programs that are made by tax professionals that are especially designed to give taxpayers access to every credit and deduction that is allowed. When information is entered into the online system it is encrypted and retrievable while taxes are being prepared. If income tax rate amounts are needed before tax time, simply start taxes early.

It is possible to use one of these tax preparation site software programs over the course of the year to enter information for tax time as it becomes available to the taxpayer. This allows the taxpayer the luxury of keeping tabs on their income tax rate situation before any unwanted surprises occur. As an example, if eBay sales are beginning to send a taxpayer close to the next income tax bracket, perhaps taking a vacation at Christmas will act to keep taxable income inside of the lower income tax rate division.

Filing taxes online is the safe and sane way to get all complicated tax forms created in a professional manner and filed without any risks involved. What some taxpayers fail to realize today is that their tax forms often contain everything necessary to aide a bad person in taking their identity. Each year at tax time, the IRS alerts taxpayers to many schemes in progress with goals of procuring important information or refunds illegally.

While filing taxes online, users are protected from their important information falling into the wrong hands through an encryption process that makes their information impossible to read by anybody except the IRS with the computerized key to the complicated codes being used. Completed forms can often leave the computer that they are on and arrive at the IRS almost instantly through the use of telephone line transportation.

As taxpayer information travels through the telephone line in a format that is encrypted, it comes out on the other end inside of an IRS computer. When tax forms are mailed instead filing taxes online, the mail arrives in a paper format that IRS employees must read and type into the IRS computer system before it can be processed. When humans are typing, there is a possibility of mistakes being made by accident.

The computerized tax preparation sites with their software available for filing taxes online ensure the taxpayers safety while allowing for an error-free tax experience. All possible credits, tax reductions, and refund options are explored with the taxpayer filling out the forms through a series of questions. The questions are all asked in an easy to answer format that double-checks all arithmetic and numbers for accuracy.

Nobody enjoys filing taxes with the IRS books of instructions and selection of forms a complicated mess to get through for people who are trying to do everything offline. Online tax preparation is a fool-proof way of achieving a professionally prepared tax form without the brain damage involved. Most of the online tax preparation programs will allow users to answer their preparation questions over hours or weeks as they wish.

Refunds that result from filing taxes online can be sent directly into a taxpayer’s bank account quickly because man-hours are cut back at the IRS when the forms go directly into the computer system. The direct deposit refunds protect the taxpayer from having their money stolen out of the mail systems, as happens each year to many people. Filing taxes online keeps users safe and provides a speedier method of receiving refund money.

Today, the United States is considering a federal tax system overhaul that would do away with the IRS. The Fair Tax plan would replace income tax with a country-wide sales tax that each member of our society would pay as a part of everyday shopping. Paychecks would not have income tax taken out of them any more, which would act like a raise that would allow more Americans to shop for the items that they need.

One of the problems being seen with our current income tax system are numerous scams that creative people use to hide income, or to otherwise get out of paying their fair share of the tax burden that must be paid to keep the country running smoothly. While federal tax refund checks are nice to have, many people believe that having their whole paycheck to enjoy would be nicer.

The Fair Tax proposal would like to tax only the new items being purchased for use or consumption in homes; it would not apply to business expenses. The suggested tax rate is placed at 23%, with monthly rebate checks being sent to households that are in lower income brackets. This monthly payment would act like our current federal tax refund checks and be free money for the lower income homes to use towards necessities.

Unfortunately, the rebate plan that would send out monthly federal tax refund checks for the Fair Tax is part of the problem that is keeping this simple taxing system from entering our lives. The richer do not want the poorer to have monthly federal tax refund checks. The richer claim that it would be unfair to make the poorer pay less taxes based upon incomes. The proposed monthly federal tax refund checks act to reduce taxes.

The current United States president is against the Fair Tax plan, and wants to overhaul the current income tax system, to include more pages of instructions on how to get our federal tax refund checks. It is quite possible that there isn’t an American alive that has ever filled out their own IRS Form 1040 (long version0 that would vote ‘yes’ to more pages of IRS income tax instructions.

The Fair Tax proposal has been handed to congress during each session since 1999. Perhaps today is not the day that income taxes will be revoked. However, at some point in time the antiquated income tax system will cease to function correctly and need to be changed. Today, it is too easy for many Americans to hide income made online, or made working ‘under the counter’ or, for Americans to be injured through income tax scams.

Did you know that you can track your IRS income tax refund online after filing your taxes? The government keeps a Website called, ‘Where’s My Refund’ that is quick and simple to use. After placing a few pieces of information into the program, the IRS will show you on the computer screen exactly where you income tax refund check is.

How to find your income tax refund check online:

To use the income tax refund locating system, simply fill in the blanks for Social Security number, exact amount of refund, and the information on your tax filing status. This will take you to a page that shows where the refund check is located at that time. Checks can be in the mail, in the bank, or returned to the IRS for various reasons.

Changes in your address for IRS mailings:

The IRS income tax refund tracing program is set-up for users to put their new address into the system if their IRS refund has gone back to the IRS as unable to be delivered. When a taxpayer places a new address into the government tracing program, if they have any refunds sitting there, they will be sent out to the new address quickly.

How to stay safe while finding your IRS refund check in the system:

Around tax time each year, there are scams and frauds running by horrible people that would like to have your income tax refund personal information so that they can try to rip-off your identity or bank account. The IRS will never send you an email before you contact them to request communications. Do not click on anything in a fake IRS email.

Some users are hesitant to use their social security number online for IRS transactions such as is necessary with the income tax refund tracing program. The IRS is aware of the hazards of placing your Social Security number online. There is a free service through the IRS that will assign an individual ITIN number that can be used instead the SS number.

What to do if your IRS income tax refund check is not showing in the system:

When a taxpayer cannot find their income tax refund any place inside of the IRS Where’s My Refund system, it is not time to panic. It takes the IRS up to 5-weeks to put your information into the system if you filed your return by mail and up to 1-week for your information to go into that system if you filed your tax return online.

The IRS extension is very easy to get. People who need extra time to file their Federal taxes can simply fill out the very short IRS Form 4868; add a check for the taxes due and ship. This time extension allows the taxpayer up to six-months to finish preparing their taxes. Uh… Yes, I did say ‘add a check for the taxes due’.

Unfortunately, the IRS requires all taxpayers to pay their taxes by April 15 each year without exception. On some years, the date of April 15 is extended by a few days to cover natural disasters, or weekends, but the money that is owed on taxes is always due before any time extensions allowed through IRS Form 4868.

Taxpayers are told to estimate their taxes owing before filing for an IRS extension in time for filing. Some taxpayers estimate by doing a detailed calculation of their filing situation, and some estimate by grabbing a number out of thin-air. The IRS will accept both methods of estimation, but the latter method can run the taxpayer into troubles.

The IRS has the right to refuse your Form 4868 request for more time to finish your paperwork if the estimated taxes appear to be out-of-line. Taxpayers have already tried to fool the government by asking for an IRS extension in time for the purpose of getting out of payments. The IRS takes steps to guard against these tricksters now.

If the IRS extension for time is refused after you have filed it close to the April 15 due date, then all money owing is subject to late-fees and fines that can be as high as 0.5% added to your owing figure for each month that it is late. This is why it is best to try to give the government a true estimation and payment for the taxes that you owe.

There is a second way of getting an IRS extension of sorts that will increase the time that is required to fill out your paperwork properly. Simply get the paperwork created as close to perfect as you can do within your circumstances and send it in on time by April 15th. The government allows you three years to go back and fix mistakes on taxes.

IRS extension Form 4868 is available online free to print. Some tax preparation services offer to allow you to fill one out for a fee. Before paying to have one of these forms made out for you, go to the IRS site and see what the Form 4686 looks like. Many people find that it is very easy to mail their own IRS extension form themselves, without help.

The Internal Revenue Service [IRS] is the name of the government agency that is in charge of the Federal Income Tax system. (Yawn…) If this is where your understanding of the Federal Income Tax system stops, you are not alone. The art of understanding how to collect a simple Federal Income Tax Refund becomes more complicated every year. Our IRS instruction books are completely outrageous, and simply – ‘they’ know it.

The IRS is made up of human beings who are trying to use those Federal Income Tax Refund instructions right along with us. Once this understanding is internalized, filing a Federal Tax return for the purpose of getting your refund becomes a whole lot easier.

What is a Federal Income Tax Refund?

Jobs that produce a paycheck are pre-taxed by the government. An amount of money is taken out of each paycheck and given to the government for the purpose of pre-paying your yearly Federal Tax dues. The amount of money being given to the government is based upon a calculated guess that varies according to individual situations. Normally, the guess is wrong and money must either be paid or refunded to settle the tax bill.

The Federal government allows a variety of items that can reduce the amount of taxes that is owed to the IRS. These items are called ‘deductions’. Those complicated Federal Income Tax Refund instructions are all about the deductions that taxpayers are allowed to ask the government to remove from the owing tax bill. While there is an EZ form that is easier to fill out for the refund, the longer 1040 form often results in a bigger refund.

One of the very first deductions that taxpayers should see if they qualify for is called an Earned Income Credit or EIC. This credit is worth up to 4,824 dollars depending upon individual circumstances and how many children are living in the home. Up to 25% of all taxpayers who are allowed to ask for this refund fail to do so. People without children may also ask for this money if they qualify under the rules.

The Federal Income Tax Refund is made by mail after the IRS receives the paperwork. Some people believe that it is wise to hold the money received on the refund for a period of 60 days before spending it to see if the IRS will be sending a second note asking for an explanation on part of your paperwork. In recent years, the IRS sends out refunds first in some cases and then decides to ask questions later that might result in some of the Federal Income Tax Refund money needing to be returned.

Federal Earned Income Credit [EIC] allowances on United States tax forms are there as a lower income taxpayer relief. The EIC is a tax refund that applies to people between the ages of 25 and 64 years that do not have children, and to all other lower income people that have children living in their homes. Up to 25% of all people who are eligible for the Federal Earned Income Credit do not ask to have this refund money sent to them.

How much money is available on the EIC or Earned Income Credit?

The maximum refund that can be claimed is 4,824 dollars by people that have more than two children living in their home for longer than a six-month period out of the year. Parents, grandparents, older siblings, and foster care parents are just a few of the many possible caretakers that can claim a Federal Earned Income. A lesser amount is given to individuals or couples that do not have children, up to 438 dollars.

How do I claim my Earned Income Credit refund?

Our tax laws are constantly changing. Inside of the Federal tax instruction book, there will be a chapter on how to calculate the EIC money that belongs to you. This is a very easy calculation that is done through answering a series of questions that do not go onto your tax forms. Taxpayers answer the questions and then match their answer to a chart in order to know the refund amount to claim.

The Federal government has rules that must be followed in order to claim your refund. To claim a refund you must be a US citizen, or resident-status alien. Adults and their claimed children must have any one of the various types of Social Security cards. If one spouse is not a US citizen or resident-status alien, they must file all of their global income as US income on the papers in order to collect the Earned Income Credit refund money.

It is possible for taxpayers to amend past tax filings for three years in order to collect on any missed EIC refunds. The form to use for amended taxes is normally called 1040X, and it is available to download from the Internet. It is very important to put the right amendment year numbers at the top of this form, and to make sure that your individual tax situation does not require more than one form.

While considering the Federal Earned Income Credit, taxpayers may also want to consider collecting an EIC from their State Taxes if one is available for your area. Examples of places that have non-Federal EIC refunds include: - San Francisco, California, - Montgomery County, Maryland, - New York City, New York, - and 20 states or more. It is wise to apply for all possible Earned Income Credit refunds.

Income tax filing is a compulsory exercise for everyone who is earning and resides within the jurisdictions of the IRS. Income tax filing ensures that every taxable person residing within the country declares all of his or her taxable income and assets. The deadline for income tax filing is April 15th of each year and any one failing to file on time will face interest charges and fines.

Also, hiding an asset or income to reduce the amount of tax payable is considered illegal and is a federal crime. This crime, called tax evasion is a serious crime and punishable under federal law and judiciary.

The Federal Income Tax is a progressive tax that is levied on the Adjusted Gross Income or AGI of each taxpayer. There is a certain limit that set by the IRS and an AGI below this limit is considered to be exempt from tax. The taxing system is a complicated one and it is governed by the Internal Revenue Code and is handled by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The filing of income tax each year is easy for some people but difficult for most. This is because many people today have extended credit situation and this complicates that person’s financial details. The income Tax filing requires all individuals to file a return whether the person is taxable or not. If the financial situation is complicated, then it becomes a difficult job to account for everything on the tax form without missing anything.

There’s also a huge rush during the last period of the tax filing, typically just when the due date (April 15th) is approaching. This also makes it a difficult job to file your income tax return in peace.

While filing your tax, you also need to be aware of all the deductions and tax credits that may be applicable to you. But there are too many policies to keep track of and it is not possible to always know what may apply to you.

These are some of the major problems faced by the taxpayer when the time comes for filing income tax. The IRS has come up with a very elegant solution to these problems and it is called e-file. As the name suggests, e-file is an electronic means of submitting your income tax returns. This can easily be done online, through the Internet because the IRS has approved a few good third-party websites to assist in the process.

Taxpayers can log on to these websites and by paying a small fee can file their tax returns in a fully electronic and automated manner. There is no paperwork involved and you will have access to information on all the possible deductions and tax credits that may apply to you. You can also pay your tax online through these websites when you’re filing your returns. You can also schedule a tax payment on a later date. E-file is always free for individuals with an AGI under $56,000 and it is really the best way to file your returns.

The Federal Tax is a progressive tax levied on the taxable income and assets of the citizens and resident aliens. The entire responsibility of administrating and collecting the Federal Tax lies with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Every year before the 15th of April, all individuals with taxable incomes, assets and properties must file their return along with the tax amount due.

The Federal Tax is a very complicated system and there are a vast number of checks and balances to ensure a proper assessment of the due tax each taxpayer. This depends on the amount of deductable items that are applicable on the taxpayer’s income. There are also the deductibles that are calculated for getting the gross income. The taxable income of the person is called Adjusted Gross Income or AGI, which is obtained after calculating the deductions applicable for the person at the two stages.

There are certain ceilings below which or above which the tax rules change. There is a minimum AGI set by the IRS, following the Internal Revenue Code. A person with an income that is below this set AGI is non-taxable under federal tax. Upwards of the lower limit, there are slabs that decide how much tax the person would be paying each year. The tax is also calculated on properties like houses and pieces of land, etc.

Every person is required a file a tax return by the 15th of April each month. This tax return shows the tax details of the individual. The IRS requires all individuals falling under the federal tax laws to declare all assets that the person owns. This includes all properties and assets that are legally filed under the name of that person and any other assets, which the person may be hiding. Hiding an asset to reduce the amount of tax is called Tax Evasion and it is a federal crime punishable with harsh sentences under the Federal judiciary.

Preparing for this complicated process can be an arduous task. There’s usually a lot of paperwork to be done and this lends itself vulnerable to the possibilities of errors. There are many problems with filing your returns by hand. You need to know of all the policies that may apply to you and of all the liabilities that you need to take into consideration. You have to make sure that your return is error free so that you do not run in to legal or other red-tape problems with the IRS.

Thus, it is worth your while and more to file your returns through e-file. E-file is a convenient system provided by the IRS to help the taxpayers with filing their returns. This is essentially electronic filing through the Internet. There are quite a few good e-file websites, which provide helpful tax-software and e-file services. They are approved by the IRS and are completely legal. You can even pay your tax with a credit card to cut down on the out-of-pocket expenses. E-file offers many convenient options to easily prepare your returns and file them online, completely paperless and hassle free.
